On June 18, 1942 Bernard Whitfield became the first Navy African American Commissioned Officer. After WW II Robinson became a well known radiologist. He spent the remainder of his career in work caring for his fellow veterans at the Veterans Administration Hospitals. Robinson was born in 1918 in Chicago, Illinois and died on August 23, 1972 in Allen Park, Michigan.
