One of the twentieth century's most prominent leaders in Black Nationalism and Pan-Africanism, Marcus Garvey was born on August 17, 1887 in Saint Ann's Bay, Jamaica. Garvey was the founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League. Marcus Garvey died on June 10, 1940 in London at age 52.
