The former Governor of Massachusetts, Deval Laurdine Patrick was born on July 31, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois. Patrick is a veteran politician having served as a civil rights lawyer, United States Assistant Attorney General and Governor. He was elected to two terms as the first African American Governor of Massachusetts from January 4, 2007 to January 8, 2015. Patrick's life is indicative of what can be done with hard work, a good education and a commitment towards success. He graduated cum laude from both Harvard College and Harvard Law School where he was President of the Harvard legal Aid Bureau. His life propelled from growing up as a child of a single mother on the South Side of Chicago to the Governor of one of America's largest and most powerful states.
