President Barack Obama Born

The 44th President of the United States and the first African American President of the United States, Barack Hussein Obama II was born on August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii to Stanley Ann Dunham and Barack Obama, Sr.  President Obama received his B.A. degree from Columbia University and his law degree from Harvard University where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review. He entered politics as a state senator representing the 13th District in Illinois where he served three terms from 1997 to 2004. During that period he ran unsuccessfully for the United States Congress in 2000. In 2004 President Obama ran and won in a political campaign for the United States Senate in Illinois.

He announced in 2007 that he would campaign for the nation's highest office, the presidency of the United States..   He was elected President of the United States on November 4, 2008.  He defeated his republican opponent John McCain by 365 to 173 electoral votes.  President Obama received 52.9% to McCain's 45.7% popular vote. President Obama was reelected to a second presidential term on November 6, 2012. He defeated his republican opponent Mitt Romney by 332 to 206 electoral votes.  President Obama received 51.1% to Romney's 47.2% popular vote.  President Obama is married to the former Michelle Robinson and they have two daughters Sasha and Malia.
