April 15, 1889 – May 16, 1979 – A. Philip Randolph

A great leader of the American Civil Rights and Labor Movements, Asa Phillip Randolph was born on April 15, 1889.  The first primarily African American Labor Union; the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters was organized by Randolph.  The March on Washington in 1963 where Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr delivered his “I Have A Dream” speech was mainly led by A. Phillip Randolph.
