Emperor Haile Selassie (July 23, 1892 – August 27, 1975)
Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia went into exile during the war with Italy on May 2, 1936. Born Tafari Makonnen Woldemikael into the Solomonic dynasty. Haile Selassie was Emperor of Ethiopia from 1930 to 1974. Haile Selassie was the final Emperor in a monarchy of over 3,000 years in Ethiopia. Selassie traced himself back to Menelik I, who is believed to be the son of King Solomon and Makeda “Queen of Sheba”. Menelik I was the first Emperor and Haile Selassie ruled as the 225th and last in that reign.
